Contemporary Christian music. Ray Repp (1942-2000) was a hugely successful, guitar-playing seminarian who revolutionized the music played at Catholic masses with his first album, Mass for Young Americans in 1965. While not openly gay during his career as a singer/songwriter of contemporary Christian music, Ray is now well known as a gay man who forever changed how Catholics worshipped. He was the partner/husband of author Richard Alther for 20 years.
